Saturday Night in Toronto

I have the evening off tonight and how did I choose to spend it? Relaxing at home and making chicken soup....its summer here in Toronto and we are just getting through a super warm heat wave and I decided it would be a good idea for soup :) Well it might not be the ideal temperature to be enjoying a hot soup but it turned out wonderful and was a nice homey, calming way to spend my evening!

Tomorrow Sarah (guest writer) and I are heading up to St Jacobs County to check out some of the Mennonite farming communities/shops! Stay tuned for a post early this week on our visit and some awesome pictures :)

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend :)

just a snipit

So I thought I would give you a photo roll of what I have been up to the past few weeks at work...since I spend most of my week there, I figure its good to show what I am doing with my time...prove I am not just lazing around my apartment :-) As you can see I make a lot of bread...also I sear my entire hand, cut up some meat, and make some pretty damn good deserts!

Fish Bar- Happy Birthday Mom

french fries of the sea...deep fried smelts! probably my favorite item at the restaurant! wonderful and crispy, perfectly salted, with a spicy mayo on the side to accent them!
The cod fish croquettes were tasty with a tomato salsa as a good accompaniment but unfortunatly the wilted greens served to us on top of them kind of killed the visual appeal.
crab cakes with mango salsa and a smoked paprika emulsion we all wonderful together and upped that little bit more with the toasted pumpkin seeds, but again the presentation would have been so much better with out the soggy looking garnish on top.

the lemon curd parfait with cream cheese and vanilla crumble was wonderfully tart and rich, perfect to share but probably too decadent in size for just one person!

All in all our trip to Fishbar was wonderful, the food was delicious, the service was prompt, friendly and not over done! I had been there twice before the evening with my mom and enjoyed everything just as much...although they use to have this awesome smoked trout ceaser salad that i would love to see make its way back onto their menu! Would I go back...lets just put it this way...I have dreams about those smelts!
