Goed Eten

Goed Eten is a tiny brunch spot just south of Dundas on Ossington (188 Ossington Ave.). I found it by accident a few Sundays ago while strolling with my Mom and we decided to grab a quick bite. There is only about 6 tables, and some stools at a counter, its tiny but worth it. The coffee was wonderful, it was just plain brewed coffee, nothing fancy, but it is the closest thing to good coffee I have had since I was living in Nicaragua and the beans cam roasted from my backyard.

Service was friendly and professional, not super fast, but not slow either. I had Eggs Benny on peameal and an English muffin, with home fries and an apple slaw, and mom had eggs Benny on grilled veggies and an English muffin with he same sides. The also offered the poached eggs on smoked salmon. I say if your going to do something do it well, and they came through, the eggs were poached to perfection, and the apple slaw was killer! A small menu but what they do, they do well, I did not hear one complaint from any of the full 5 tables and 4 bar stools around me !

The only thing I found kind of confusing was that the Name of the restaurant didn't really match the food or the Decor. I was expecting more of a Belgian theme when I saw the name but the only real Belgian thing on the menu was the waffles. and the Decor was not specific, parts looked very french, parts European and parts just diner style.

All in all a wonderful meal. I would say, Try it out!

Structure

I think its about time I added some structure to my life...and to my blog. Right now everything is all scattered and up in the air. Its time to bring it back down to earth and have it make a little more sense. So here it goes the new layout for my blog :)

Monday- Go Green Tips
Tuesday- Restaurant Reviews
Wednesday- LGBTQ Awareness
Thursday- Natural Health Tips
Friday-New Recipie
Saturday-Anything goes
Sunday-Monthly Challenge Update

So there it is, my structure, it might change a little but for the most part its here to stay :)

Sad Endings and New Beginings

Last Sunday my mom and I went to see the Lion King. During intermission she decided to check her phone and had to listen to the most terrible words come out of her mothers mouth via answering machine. My Opa (grandfather) had a massive heart attack and was gone. We bolted out of the theater and automatically stated driving up to Northern Ontario where they live. I spent the past week at their place helping my Oma get through the hard decisions and just taking care of her. I have never seen anyone is this amount of pain, a pain that cant really be healed, 57 years together and now she is alone.

My Opa was one of the most interesting people you could ever meet. Born and raised in Germany. He came to Canada by boat in his twenties with only ten dollars in his pocket. Worked so hard sending money back to Germany for my oma and to eventually bring her here as well. He was such an animal lover having 50 acres of land in northern Ontario that is a hunting free zone. I can remember one time we were sitting outside and he had a mosquito biting his arm, he looked at it and then looked at me and said "well they need to eat too". He was a class "A" auto mechanic, and had a passion for every living thing.

All I can say is dear Opa I miss you! I hope that where ever you are, its amazing, and you can eat all the butter and cakes you want.

Ruhe in frieden Opa! Ich leibe dich!

Happy Mothers Day!!!

A baby asked God, "they tell tell me you are sending me to earth
tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and
helpless?" "Your angel will be there waiting to take care of you" The
child asked "but tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything
but sing and smile to be happy." God said "Your angel will sing for
you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angels love
and be very happy" Again the child asked " And how am I going to be
able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the
language?" God said, "your angel will tell you the most beautiful and
sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your
angel will teach you how to speak." " And what am I going to do when I
want to talk to you?" God said "your angel will place your hands
together and will teach you to pray." " Who will protect me?" God said
"your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life" " But I
will always be sad because I will not see you anymore" God said "your
angel will always talk to you about me and will teach you the way to
come back to me, even though I will always be next to you." At that
moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from earth could be
heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now,
please tell me my angels name." " you will simply call her , Mom"
Happy Mothers Day to my beautiful angel xoxo

Mommy, you are the most amazing, important, incredible, humble and beautiful person I know. Not only am I lucky to have such an amazing mom, but I am blessed to have the most amazing best friend anyone could ask for! I know sometimes we don't agree, and most of the time you are right, but I just want you to know that you are my rock. I have many people in my world who inspire me in different things, but only one that inspires me in life it self. I love you Mommy! Thank you for being you, and for being my Angel! xoxoxooxoxox

Preparation

As I prepare for my month long challenge ( that you can vote for in the side panel <----) I have vowed to not but any groceries until I have used up most of the stock pile I have here. I want to be pretty much empty here at my apartment so when June first arrives I can do a nice market shop accordingly.

As well as I prepare for a month long food challenge...today I am preparing for my first dance class in about 4 years...it is tonight and I am super excited. Most of you probably don't know but i was a competitive dancer for about 16 years of my life. Its something I love but was never overly gifted at. So here I go back to the old Studio, for an hour long killer class...should be interesting :) I cant wait to see everyone :)

Uh Huh Her

On Saturday night I had the opportunity to go and see Uh Huh Her perform at the Mod Club here in Toronto. It was an awesome show...shorter then I expected but awesome none the less! The girls ( Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey) were super sweet, although I kind of wished they communicated a little bit more with their audience. I mean its not often we get to see them perform live here in Toronto it would have been fun to hear some banter! Anyhoo they were wonderful, looked fantastic...sounded awesome...overall it was a fun time. It was a night full of pretty much every Toronto lesbian(and a few gays) pushed into the Mod Club looking hot and enjoying great music..so I really cant complain!

The Good Food and Market Show

Today I had such a wonderful sunday :) I woke up at about 7am, had a shower and headed down to the antique market at the St. Lawrence Market. I met up with one of the most wonderful people in my life and my best friend Cintia and we had a slow but petty good breakfast of french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and coffee at a little pub called Paddingtons. Unfortunatly, I was so excited to see Cintia and about all the antiques that I forgot to take pictures...sorry. The antique market was wonderful, I even managed to pick up a set of 1970's hand painted ceramic mixing bowls.

I wont bore you with the work meeting that followed that.

After the meeting I had at work I met up with my mom and we tackled the "$Good Food and Market" food show at the international center. It was a good show, alot like the ones I have been to before. I was expecting more local, and market driven products, but I guess I cant complain I got some pretty sweet swag out of the deal( Including a HUGE bag of popcorn).

I somehow managed to get out of helping my brother and sister in law into their new home, but after the food show I went and visited their new place and was so happy for them. It was MASSIVE. Not at all what I was expecting!

Now I sit at home watching season two of Departures while I eat my HUGE bag of popcorn and write this blog. Next Stop. Reading time.....I really need to get into a habbit of finishing a book before I start a new one!
